Best Buddies

This fun-filled birthday cake for a sister and brother combined many of their favourite toys and characters in one unique confection. Cartoon characters Dora and Boots decorate the bottom tier and a train runs on its edible track, encircling the top tier. Edible items sitting on top of the cake include a favourite blue teddy bear, a much-loved Winnie the Pooh blanket and a red baseball cap. Balloons, musical notes and a touch of glitter add the finishing touches. And the flavours? Vanilla surprise cake with strawberry buttercream filling on the bottom and banana cake with sweet vanilla buttercream on top!

Pretty in pink

This was a fun birthday cake to create. Designed for a three-year-old girl who loves princesses, how could I not model the birthday girl as a princess sitting on top of her cake? The two-tiered vanilla cake was filled with milk chocolate buttercream filling and covered in vanilla fondant. Quilting, sugar pearls, hearts and touches of glitter created a design fit for any princess!

CakeSavvy is moving to a new format! I recently traded in my original web site for a blog format, which will allow me talk a bit about the cakes I design, from cake and filling flavours to the inspiration behind some of the designs. In the meantime, cake photos can still be viewed on my Flickr site at www.flickr.com/photos/cakesbycheryl.
